Good Pump for 14' Intex pool Pumps
Intex pool Pump Krystal Clear14-Inch Sand Filter Pump System. Includes 6-way valve, pressure gauge, strainer basket, built-in timer and power Motor; 0.5 horse power; 14-Inch sand filter pump is best suited for above grounds up to 12,800 gallon.
Have been using this pump for about a month and a half and I must say its much better than the filter pump that came with the pool. Setup was very easy following the instructions. The 14' pool I have did not allow the use of the larger inside connections that ship with this pump. I had to just pull out the outer pieces on the pool connections and then insert the adapters that are shipped with Intex pool Pump.(You do not need to buy the adapters, they come with this pump) I was initially concerned with the connections leaking (Looked like they probably would), but they have not leaked a drop.
I will say that although the pump is much more powerful than the original Intex pool Pump, it still will not get all the very small stuff on the bottom of the pool as I had hoped. So I came up with a relatively cheap and simple solution. Using a small plunger end that fits almost exactly over the original inlet of the pool (purchased the plunger at the local grocery store) and a long hose purchased in the pool section wally world, I made a vacuum that works like a charm! I am really surprised at how well this works, the suction on the hose is very good. Just had to trim out the interior hole of the plunger and cut off the excess hose. In 10-15 min my pool is crystal clear! Also I found that you have to submerge the hose and ensure all air is out of it or you will cause the pump to stop pumping and have to get out and restart it. Also with regard to the pump not getting the stuff off the bottom, if the pool was used on a daily basis, (kept any debris stirred up) and the pump ran every day, it may very likely keep it cleaner than in my situation. I don't swim every day and I don't run the pump every day. Usually every two to three days.
After using the Intex pool Pump for a couple of weeks I started to notice the gauge was running in the yellow and that the suction was somewhat decreased. As per the instructions I opened the outlet cover, back-washed the pump for about 30 sec, rinsed it, and it was in the green again. Guess the pump sucked up enough debris that it need to be cleaned.
